Chinese Service Center-USA, Bergen Chinese School, and Bohua Chinese School celebrated the Year of the Golden Monkey on February 28, 2016. Teachers, students, parents, and guests celebrated the New Year together by enjoying delicious home cooking and watching a beautiful performance by our talented students. Mr. Nelson Tai, Chairman of the Association of New Jersey Chinese Schools, Vice Deputy Directors of the Taiwan Economic and Culture Office, Ms. Yvonne Wang and Mr. Thomas Chang, were invited to attend the New Year celebration.
Artwork and writings by Bergen and Bohua students, paintings by the Adult Chinese Brushing Class, and flower arrangements by the Adult Ikebana Class adorned the hallway in a dazzling display of Chinese language and culture. A smorgasbord of delicious dishes were donated by parents and sold to raise funds for the schools and PTAs. Generous vendors sponsored refreshments and prizes for the Raffle event.
Under the direction of Sifu Henry Lee, two lively “lions” opened the stage performance with the Lion Dance and Red Envelope Ceremony. Students from each class at both Bergen and Bohua then gave entertaining performances including singing, dancing, speaking, and even putting on a puppet show! The Bergen Chinese School/King Lai Folk Dance Class performed a beautiful Uighur Tambourine Dance and a dramatic Sword Dance. The Adult Tai Chi Class took the stage to perform “Long Fist”, and the BCS Adult Conversation Classes showed off their Chinese through song and comedic dialogue! The show culminated with the drawing of the 50/50 winners and the Dragon Dance. It was an amazing celebration of Chinese language and culture and a great testament to what our community can accomplish when we work together. It was a wonderful day of food, culture, and celebration of the New Year!
We want to give our heartfelt thanks to the Taipei Economic and Culture Office in New York, HSBC, American Trading House, Walong Marketing Inc., Wei- Chuan USA Inc, Well Luck Co. Inc, and Fujian Tea Import and Export Corporation for their continuous support.
